Here's another still life I started a while back and pretty much finished up this week. Skulls are hard. Seriously!! One of the hardest things I've ever had to paint! I have this stretched currently in a 24 x 24 inch format. I'm going to change it to this I think. I'm happier with this crop I guess. The glare is so hard to photograph too! If anyone has any tricks to getting rid of the glare on dark paintings, I would love to hear it.
For this or other landscape paintings I have up for auction on ebay, just click on the link at the above right.
Both paintings are so beautiful. :) And your skull is so dynamic! Really an interesting composition, I like this crop too.
ReplyDeleteAlways impressed with your work when I come a visiting! I do need to get back to doing this more often!!
ReplyDeleteThanks all of you!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the skill would be very hard, but you pulled it off! Also love your calla lily.
ReplyDeleteBoth are very nice and have completely different moods. I also likd thd long vertical format if your landscape.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my blog. If is nice not to have to paint faces. ;)
Sorry about the typos . Darn autocorrect changes things when you don't want it to and doesn't change it when you need it to.
DeleteThose are both beautiful! And your skull is so delicate.
ReplyDeleteRe. glare, I use a scanner, which solves the problem. For bigger paintings I scan in pieces & stitch it together with a graphics program (which I really try to avoid having to do). Other than that, photographing it outdoors on a cloudy day, with a nice camera on a tripod. :^)
Love the skull painting so unusual and brilliant.
ReplyDeleteYes glare is a problem, I photograph paintings with dark back grounds where there is no direct light source also moving back as far as possible and zoom in on the painting helps too. Also when photo-shopping it a lot can be done with gamma adjust.
Hi Kimberly, Thank you for posting on my blog. It has been a long time since I posted. Anyway, re dark paint/glare, I always use daylight/shade when photographing, and then manipulate the picture. Loving your bird on the skull! :)
ReplyDeleteThis skull painting is amazing! Nice work, totally love it!
ReplyDeleteOh wow...that skull really is so very well done! See you are expanding your art as well:)
ReplyDeleteKimberly - what a great job you did with that skull. I really like the counterpoint of the live bird and the skull - makes a terrific painting!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!!!
ReplyDeleteThe skull is awesome!! Very realistic, Kim!!! Love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much everyone! Theresa, these are way too large for a scanner, but Diana, I tried stepping way back and using the zoom and that really helped! Thanks so much!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the painting and the photos.
